TE AKAU SHARK produced a stunning performance to win the 1600m G1 WFA Chipping Norton Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.
Coming from 8.5 lengths off the lead at the 600m mark, after a moderate early pace, he unleashed an electric turn of foot to run down his opposition and win easily.
His sectionals were so fast, that we can draw comparsions to the champion Mare Winx.
In 6 races where Winx ran at a similar early speed to Te Akau Shark on Saturday, she ran final 600m ratings of:
- +16.2L above standard
- +16L
- +14.6L
- +13.4L
- +11.8L
- +10.6L
Te Akau Shark ran +14 lengths above standard on Saturday, right up there with the wonder Mare. Only seriously good horses can run that fast!
A moderate race pace was the only thing that prevented Te Akau Shark winning in more dominant style and rating higher than the 104.3 WFA Performance Rating recorded.
